Kazakhstan Outlined the Key Directions of the ECO Chairmanship

In his opening remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan emphasized the need for the Organization to adapt to new economic realities and implement more effective cooperation mechanisms.

The First High-Level Committee Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan , Alibek Bakayev was held.

The meeting brought together deputy foreign ministers from Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, the Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the ECO, as well as the Director General for International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan emphasized the need for the Organization to adapt to new economic realities and implement more effective cooperation mechanisms.

The Kazakh diplomat outlined Kazakhstan’s priorities for its ECO chairmanship, highlighting the importance of developing transport and logistics connectivity, enhancing trade and technological cooperation, strengthening ECO’s institutional framework, and advancing food security and sustainable development.

Participants also discussed key issues related to ECO’s development, including efforts to enhance the Organization’s institutional capacity. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of drafting the new strategic document, "ECO Vision 2035", which will reflect modern economic challenges and trends. Special attention was given to structural reforms aimed at improving ECO’s operational efficiency.

On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Minister Bakayev held a bilateral meeting with the ECO Secretary General, Asad M.Khan.

As ECO Chair for 2025, Kazakhstan remains committed to actively promoting initiatives that will enhance the Organization’s effectiveness and deepen economic integration among member states.
